/p>BUNGA RAMGARHIA, GOLDEN TEMPLE, AMRITSAR.
During Misls rules in Punjab, all the Sikh Sardars decided to protect HARMANDAR SAHIB AND SROVAR from the invading Mughals, Afgan Pathans etc., to build BUNGAS to keep their forces in it to fight and deter the invaders. It was a very prominent thought and planning since entire parkarma of Harmandar Sahib got sorounded by these Bungas. M. JASSA SINGH RAMGARHIA started building BUNGA RAMGARHIA in 1794 and spent about Rs. 2,75,000/-. After his death in 1803, his son S. JODH SINGH RAMGARHIA, continued the work and spent another Rs. 2,25,000/- over it. After his death in 1816, its further work was stopped by M. Ranjit Singh, then ruler of Punjab and sent the balance material to his RAMBAGH to build his SUMMER PALACE later known as RAMBAGH PALACE. Ramgarhia Bunga is situated in the Eastern Side of the Srovar adjacent to Akhara Barram Buta. This Bunga is very differenet from the other Bunga’s, since it is a perfect Fort type building attached with TWO WATCH TOWERS to see the invading forces from a far away place then to alert and make ready the defence forces to fight with the enemy. Its three stories are visible and operative. The underground story was used to store Arms, ammunition, eatable materials and enemy detention rooms etc. The Ground Floor have a very big convention hall, Throne Seat and other living rooms etc. The upper story is decorated with crafted stone pillers, walls and roofs etc. THE MUGHAL’S CORONATION STONE PLATE brought from LAL QILA, DELHI, was also placed in it, which one can see here any time. To fulfill water needs a very big and deep WELL is also provided within the building. All stories, both the Watch Towers, Well and the PARIKARMA OF THE SROVAR are well connected with stairs. The Bunga has 150 ‘ vide face in the Parkarma and the Watch Towers have a height of 156’ approx.
At present the Bunga is under the control of Shromani Gurdwara Parbandhak committee, Amritsar and is being renovated on the demand of Ramgarhia Community, being a Sikh heritage. Ramgarhia community is also contributing in the renovation process. It is the duty of us all to keep our History and Heritage intact, protect and
